What is Patina?

The word ‘patina’ is used to describe the surface finish of a material mostly achieved through ageing and sometimes that is what a patination specialist is doing - looking to make the metal feel as though it has naturally aged. But much more can be achieved and modern patina methods do this mostly through chemical application. Our studio works with the clients to create bespoke patinas that bring out different qualities in the sculpture or design piece. We also restore older pieces and redo new work if a client is not happy with the existing patina.
